Nearly 10 years in maternal and newborn health. First in advocacy. Now in people’s homes.

I started in maternal and newborn health advocacy in 2016 — three years as a Maternal Newborn Healthcare Ambassador with Plan Canada, then as a United Nations Ambassador through the BC Council for International Cooperation.

Now I do the hands-on version: postpartum support, overnight newborn care, and birth support with families in Vancouver.

The two aren't separate. Working in homes showed me the same problems that policy work described: isolation, unequal load, families with no one to call at three in the morning. I'm completing a Social Work diploma to understand that better, and continuing toward maternal health while also completing prerequisites for midwifery school.
